Pricing For Customers

Pricing For Customers explains the major inputs partners should understand before presenting MAC PPA pricing to a customer. The calculator is the operating tool; this page explains the factors that drive it.

Project Type

Residential projects use MAC’s residential state minimum PPA rate table. Commercial projects do not currently use a published jurisdictional minimum or maximum rate floor.

System Size

Partners enter proposal system size in watts. The calculator also summarizes the system size in kilowatts.

Yearly Production

Estimated yearly production is entered in kWh from the proposal or design software.

Utility Rate

Customer current cost of power is entered in cents per kWh. This supports the savings-target comparison.

  • Contract Term: MAC PPAs are modeled at 25 years by default.
  • Annual Escalator: The calculator defaults to a 2.99% annual escalator.
  • Savings Target: The current default savings target is 15.00% versus the customer’s utility energy rate.
  • Residential State Minimums: Residential projects require selecting a state minimum PPA rate when the project is in a listed jurisdiction.
  • Commercial Projects: Commercial projects currently do not use a published MAC minimum or maximum PPA rate table. Rates still need to be commercially reasonable.

For residential projects, the calculator compares the savings-target rate against the selected state minimum. The applied PPA rate should be the higher of those two values unless MAC approves a different treatment.

For commercial projects, the calculator allows the applied rate to be entered directly because there is no published commercial jurisdictional table in this scaffold.

The monthly payment estimate is composed of two pieces:

  1. Energy Subtotal: estimated yearly production multiplied by the applied PPA rate, divided by 12 months.
  2. Battery Adder: battery storage is modeled at $6 per month per total kWh of battery storage capacity, including expansions.

The total estimated monthly payment is the energy subtotal plus the battery adder.

The savings scenario compares a utility baseline against the MAC PPA monthly payment. It is a directional comparison that depends on the customer’s current utility rate, estimated yearly production, taxes, fees, adders, actual billing, and timing.

Partners are responsible for setting MAC pricing and finance factors into their own proposal tooling. That includes tools such as SolarGraph, Aurora, OpenSolar, and any other proposal platform a partner uses to produce customer-facing estimates.
